5.8 Bob Can Play At That Game

Bob is dead.
Bob watched snow fall over Purgatory.
Bob thought the snow was pretty.
Bob commented to Dave that it must be getting near to Christmas.
Bob was informed that it only ever snowed in Purgatory on Christmas Day.
Bob pointed out that this clearly wasn't true as it was snowing today.
Bob saw Dave roll his eyes.
Bob was told that today was Christmas Day!
Bob grinned.
Bob decided not to raise the inherent complexities of this particular festival being so clearly marked in this particular supposedly neutral area.
Bob heard cries from Heaven's trench for a Christmas truce.
Bob heard approving answers from Hell's trench.
Bob thought the war was over!
Bob listened in on a long series of complex negotiations whereby it was agreed that the aforementioned truce would last for the duration of one game of football between the opposing sides, that being the time it took for both teams to reach the area of play, mark the area of play, play the first half, switch ends, play the second half, and return to their original areas.
Bob wondered why people always had to complicate things.
Bob joined Heaven's football team as they marched out to No Man's Land.
Bob was excited.
Bob was soon caught up in the hurriedly-commenced game.
Bob decided not to raise the inherent complexities of this particular festival being so clearly celebrated by these particular opposing sides.
Bob soon found it was half time.
Bob asked what the score was as they switched ends.
Bob was told that he should pay more attention.
Bob thought that may just be the story of his life.
Bob nagged and nagged until someone told him the score was one all.
Bob paid more attention in the second half.
Bob found the score was still one all at the end of the game.
Bob listened as it was decided to have a penalty shoot-out.
Bob was picked to take Heaven's final penalty.
Bob hadn't followed how the scoring had gone.
Bob knew he should have paid more attention.
Bob was told that, quite simply, if he missed then they lost, if he scored then they won.
Bob thought it was a bad idea to put such pressure on him.
Bob didn't like pressure
Bob thought they may as well consider the game lost now.
Bob heard Dave whisper, from somewhere, "it ain't over til it's over!"
Bob smiled.
Bob kicked the ball.
Bob watched the ball fly through the air.
Bob watched the ball shoot over the defenders' heads.
Bob briefly wondered why there were defenders there if this was a penalty.
Bob watched the ball glide through the goalkeeper's hands.
Bob watched the ball smash into the back of the net!
Bob jumped and yelped with joy!
Bob was hugged by his teammates!
Bob was held aloft on their shoulders!
Bob legged it back to the trench when he realised Hell's troops had already quickly returned and were preparing to fire on them!
Bob smiled happily to himself as the war resumed...
Merry Christmas from Bob!

And welcome to the first ever Bob Christmas Special!

OK, so, it's a normal-length episode that's part of the season, so it's only really a special in that it's themed around the day it's posted on. But hey, that's good enough!

This episode was planned right from the start of Bob V, being as it is a riff on a famous incident from World War One. It was a happy and amusing coincidence that, when I came to work out the release dates for the series, this fell on Christmas Day anyway! What a funny place the world is sometimes. Of course, if it hadn't been so then I may have re-arranged things a little so that it fell here anyway, but the true lucky coincidence seems much more in the spirit of things to me anyway.

And with this episode, Bob V is racing toward it's conclusion! Which is still unwritten! Edge-of-your-seat excitement there, folks. All I'll say is that the final two episodes are sort of a two-parter and sort of stand-alone. You'll see.

Please comment! All feedback is heartily encouraged and lovingly received. Especially at Christmas-time!
